The tributes to Dennis Ritchie won’t match the river of praise that spilled out over the web after the death of Steve Jobs. But they should.
While we mourned the death and remembered the life Apple CEO Steve Jobs last weekend, Dennis Ritchie — the developer of the software that facilitated the Apple interface we know — died alone.
Without Dennis Ritchie, there would be no Jobs.
Was Dennis Ritchie more important than Steve Jobs?
Dennis Ritchie dies, and just like the code he wrote, no one notices.
"Ritchie was under the radar. His name was not a household name at all, but ... if you had a microscope and could look in a computer, you'd see his work everywhere inside."
